For an executive, completing a day's work is made simpler. All actions that can be performed with in a service can now be performed in completely changed "My Tasks" page.
Tasks can be viewed either by service or by due date. If tasks are viewed "By Due Date", all pending tasks till current weekend are displayed in chronological order.
To view pending tasks, choose a client (or enter client name if you are part of active services of more than five clients). All tasks of multiple services related to this selected client will be displayed.
As highlighted in the image above, multiple actions like - file uploading, linking, time log entry, commenting and completing a task can be performed in one page for multiple services. To see all tasks within a tasklist, simply uncheck "Show only tasks assigned to me".
Hope you like this new feature. Please drop in your comments or suggestions on how we can improve it further.

Our first unplanned downtime
Today from 10:30AM to 12:05PM, Papilio was unavailable to its users for the first time after it was launched in Aug 2009. I wish this hadn't happened, but like every other breakdown, we could only be prepared for it, not avoid it. The one thing that comes to my mind is the Law of Leaky Abstractions, and today I found myself looking into the bare metal that we had so taken for granted all this time.
This has been one long run. The bright side of this is that we were back up in no time, even when there was a hardware failure (as we have been told). The beauty of cloud computing and the availability of resources when required helped us bring back the app online in no time. All the preparation for a break-down has paid off in a way.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this might have caused. Please be assured that no data was lost and no update was missed. If you have any further concerns or queries, please contact the support team.

Invoice reminders misfire
I just found out that the reminders were sent out for invoices that were posted yesterday by our invoicing software. We are extremely sorry about this error and request you to accept our sincere apologies. The problem however is being corrected and we hope that this kind of an embarrassment will be avoided in the future.

Finish well
"It doesn't matter how many designers, supply chains, workers, materials and factories were involved--if the box is improperly sealed, that's how you will be judged."
CA Guruprasad shared a very similar thought during our flight back from Pune. It doesn't matter how many man hours you spend on the audit, if your report doesn't look professional with nice binding and proper font, it will be not be given it's worth.

Identifying that you have a problem is the first step to solving it.

Multiple Accounts in Mulberry
Most of the times, its difficult to guess what your customer needs. We might be able to guess some of the times, but it takes a real knack and a lot of empathy to actually feel the pain. Especially for us who are not chartered accountants, the problem is deeper, since most of our customers are from this fraternity. One such issue has been the need to be able to invoice their customers as multiple companies, sometimes as a consultant and sometimes as a statutory body. We didn't see it initially when Mulberry went out of the door, but as soon as our beta customers started using it they saw it bright as a day.
Changing the underlying data structures is usually a tricky job. And I am glad to report that we have finished this feature to satisfaction. So here comes -
you can now create an invoice under multiple account heads (thats what we call). For those of you, who use Mulberry like a straight forward invoicing app, you will not see any changes (except the logo will not appear in the printable format yet.) If you want to use this feature, go to "Admin > Settings". Look for "Accounts". You can add a new account, or edit the current one.
Importantly, even if you don't use the multiple account feature, you can set a prefix for your invoice numbers and set the sequence number from which you want to start the numbering for your invoices.

Planning a new offering for Papilio
We propose Papilio to firms with more than 10 people, and we do so under the impression that the kind of pain Papilio resolves, appears when you grow beyond 10 in size. Surprisingly, we are getting a lot of requests from small firms which want to use Papilio and bake it into their culture so that when they do grow big, they would have a streamlined process already in place. So we are planning to bring out Papilio in a lighter package at a lower price with not many bells and whistles. We are still working on the details, but your input as always will be invaluable. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below. If you have friends in this category looking to use Papilio and are
hesitating because of the price, please let them know and ask them to
register.
On a side note, effective 1st Jan 12, the price of Papilio is 200/-, per active user per month and the min. price per month is 2000/-. However, this increase is applicable only to new customers. If you are already using papilio, you don't have to worry. You will always be charged at your current rates.
